OceanaGold Phils Inc. (Didipio Gold Copper Project) participated in the yearly worldwide celebration of Earth Day during the month of April. OceanaGold conducted tree planting, film showing and other environmental related activities.
For this year, the company celebrated the Earth Day through a film showing entitled "The Inconvenient Truth" that won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature in the United States. This film is about former United States Vice President Al Gore's campaign to educate citizens about global warming via a comprehensive slide show.
In this movie, Gore discusses the scientific opinion on climate change, the present and future effects of global warming and stresses that climate change is really not a political issue, so much as a moral one, describing the consequences he believes global climate change will produce if the amount of human-generated greenhouse gases is not significantly reduced in the very near future. The film also includes segments intended to refute critics who say that Global Warming is unproven or that warming will be insignificant.
